This is a cookbook of recipes with a bit of Swedish flair, plus a lot of American recipes from
the sister's tried and tested cooking. The cooking "gene" seems to have been handed down
from generation to generation in this lovely family. The Peterson girls collected recipes from
their friends and even from noted eating establishments. An evening out dining was also an
evening of gaining new recipes to cook at home. I hope you enjoy trying these recipes and
perusing the 7 Generational Ancestry Charts that are included.
The idea for this book came to me after going through the loss of five members of the 3rd generation of Peterson's and their husbands. After I married Tom Miles in 1985, I saw the loss of my husband's Uncle Don Dahlem in 1990 followed by Tom's parents, Roy and Etta Miles in 1992 and 1993. His Aunt Olive Dahlem and Aunt Eleanor Medendorp passed in 1994. My first thought was to make an "ancestry chart" showing the relationships and offspring of the family members. Most of the later generations, that I knew or heard about, had different sur names and it was confusing trying to put everyone in their "places" in my mind. Eight of the nine sisters married, and six of those had children with the family names of their husbands. I had difficulty with how everyone at the reunions were related so, I "charted" out their ancestry and relationships in my head and then on paper. The chart was popular and most of the family wanted a copy.
After listening to and my husband telling me about the cooking history, and delving into Etta's extensive recipe box, I saw that family recipes and preparing new recipes were a large part of the Peterson Family. Etta's Wood Recipe Box contained it's own history of friendships and relationships between the Peterson Girls and their peers. The idea of making a recipe book with an ancestry chart included, seemed like the right place to start sharing information that may be lost forever.
After the costs to produce this book are reached, any remaining profit will be given to the the Fin & Feather Reunion Committee to save or use.
